The Digital Museum of Learning opens the doors of its brick-and-mortar home, the Johann Jacobs Museum in Zurich, on open weekends and special events. Designed to nurture children's curiosity and playfulness, the events encourage visitors and school classes to explore new perspectives, get creative, and learn about the history and science of learning.

The history of the building

The Johann Jacobs Museum is a true gem on the shore of Lake Zurich. The museum is located in Villa Ernst, surrounded by a beautiful garden.

  • Villa Ernst was built in 1913 by Fritz Ernst-Curty, an engineer, entrepreneur, and politician. The renowned architect Otto Honegger designed the villa in the neo-rococo style.

  • The interior, however, was a curious hodgepodge of various elements that left many a visitor puzzled.
  • In 1980, Villa Ernst was remodeled to accommodate the new Jacobs Suchard Museum. During this process, most of its unique character was eliminated in favor of a more conventional, elegant look.
