On special occasions, the Digital Museum of Learning welcomes visitors to its physical home at the Johann Jacobs Museum in Zurich. Designed to spark children's curiosity and creativity, its events invite families and school groups to explore new perspectives and discover the history and science of learning.

The history of the building

The Johann Jacobs Museum is a true gem on the shore of Lake Zurich. The museum is located in Villa Ernst, surrounded by a beautiful garden.

  • Villa Ernst was built in 1913 by Fritz Ernst-Curty, an engineer, entrepreneur, and politician. The renowned architect Otto Honegger designed the villa in the neo-rococo style.

  • The interior, however, was a curious hodgepodge of various elements that left many a visitor puzzled.
  • In 1980, Villa Ernst was remodeled to accommodate the new Jacobs Suchard Museum. During this process, most of its unique character was eliminated in favor of a more conventional, elegant look.

  • From 2013 to 2021, the museum shifted its focus to "global interdependencies," tracing the trade of goods and transportation routes.
  • Today the museum hosts the events and exhibitions of the Digital Museum of Learning.
